Texas Style Spicy Skillet Sloppy Joes!
Don’t think for a minute that Texas Style Sloppy Joes are what you were given for lunch back in sixth grade! Texas Pepper Jelly’s sloppy joes are a real meal: hot, delicious, and nourishing! On these cold winter nights, there’s nothing like a good, hot, flavorful sloppy joe on your plate, maybe with some green beans and spicy Texas-style potato salad!
Of course, we’ve got our famous zesty Texas-style Crockpot Sloppy Joes, which are awesome to come home to after a long day at work, and now we’ve also got our delicious spicy skillet sloppy joes. Actually, these two recipes are interchangeable; either can be made in the slow cooker OR the skillet. Pick one, depending on your schedule!
Here’s how we make our spicy skillet sloppy joes:
Ingredients:
2 pounds ground beef
1 large onion, finely diced
1 green pepper, finely diced
1 red pepper, finely diced
1 yellow pepper, finely diced
1 tablespoon chili powder
1 cup pineapple, finely shredded
1 cup Pineapple Habanero Pepper Jelly
1/2 cup ketchup
1/4 cup Craig’s BBQ Sauce
Dash salt
Dash pepper
What to do:
In a large skillet, cook the ground beef. Break it up as finely as you can, and drain as thoroughly as you can.
Add all the other ingredients to the cooked and drained ground beef. Mix thoroughly, and simmer for about ten minutes, stirring occasionally. Cover, and simmer as low as your stove will go for another ten minutes.
Set out the green beans and the potato salad. Heat the buns in your microwave. Put the plates and forks on the table, call your family, and stand back.
I leave the skillet on the stovetop; it’s too big and too hot to put on the table. Just let your family help themselves out of the skillet on the stove. Or, if you’re fancier than I am, put the meat in a serving bowl. Your call. 🙂
If, by chance – and it’s a very slim chance – there’s any sloppy joe left over, put it in Tupperware and store it in the refrigerator. It’s even better the next day, reheated in your microwave. Unless you make a whole lot, however, don’t count on leftovers. This stuff is delicious.
