Stay dry and comfy inside and add Texas Pepper Jelly’s Gluten-Free Spicy Baked Hamburgers to your family meal.

How to make TPJ baked hamburgers in the oven?

Start by preheating your oven to 350° F.

Then prep the baking dish. We suggest using a baking sheet with an edge (or a casserole dish) so that any grease from the meat doesn’t drip over into the oven. (This could start a grease fire, so please don’t use a flat cookie sheet). To make for easy cleanup, cover the pan with aluminum foil.

You’ll also need a plate covered with a couple of paper towels for when you drain the excess fat from the cooked meat.

A simple recipe for cooking burgers in the oven

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup sauce (see recipe below)

The Secret is in the Sauce

You’ll need to prepare the sauce before you start making the hamburger patties.

Sauce ingredients: Craig's Habanero Ketchup Texas Pepper Jelly brand Craig's BBQ Sauce Texas Pepper Jelly brand. Competition bbq winner and backyard bbq approved

What to do:

In a medium saucepan, mix together all the sauce ingredients. Set aside.

In a large bowl, mix the hamburger, eggs, and 1/2 cup of the sauce. Form into four patties and place on the baking sheet or a casserole dish. Bake at 350° F. Bake for 15 minutes. Turn the patties over. Bake for another 10-15 minutes or until they are cooked to your level of doneness.

How long does it take to cook burgers in the oven?

Most baked burgers take about 20 minutes at 350° F to reach the correct meat temperature. With the added ingredients in our recipe, it will take about 45 minutes.

While the patties are baking in the oven, put the saucepan of the remaining sauce on a burner to warm it up. Bring to a simmer. Stir frequently to keep the sauce from burning. The burnt flavor of BBQ sauce is not tasty, so don’t let it boil.

When the patties are done, remove them from the oven and drain them on a plate with a couple of paper towel layers to soak up all the excess grease. Remove and toss the foil from the baking dish. Put the patties back on the clean baking sheet and pour the thickened sauce over the meat. Return to the oven for 15 minutes.

Your patties are done when they are cooked to a safe internal temp of 160° F – if you use turkey meat you need to have an internal temp of 165° F. Once they reach the right temp remove them from the oven and serve.

What should I put on my baked burger?

If you are a fully loaded burger person, go right ahead and load it up! We won’t judge you.

Want cheese on them? You can always add your favorite to the patties about 3-5 minutes before they are finished baking. Use cheese slices or even a shredded style. American, Colby, Monterrey Jack, Bleu, and Cheddar are some of our favorites. And since the burgers are contained the cheese won’t drip off the meat and into the grill so use as much as you want.

One other thing you can do is bake some bacon at the same time you are baking the burger patties. Bacon always adds some great flavor and a little crunchy bite to a burger.

Craig's Three Pepper Seasoning Texas Pepper Jelly brandAs a side, prepare sweet potato fries. Make it easy on yourself and use the frozen style. Just toss them in olive oil and Craig’s Three Pepper Seasoning to add a little extra flavor before baking per the package instructions.

Once you have everything baked and ready to go, enjoy.

Your family will thank you and you’ll be making hamburgers on a regular basis from here on out.
