Spicy Peach Cobbler

There are many kinds of peach cobbler, but our Texas-Style Spicy Peach Cobbler is the best, hands-down. It’s also the easiest because instead of pie crust, it uses a single cake mix!
You can throw this cobbler together in just a few minutes – preparing the peaches is the only time-consuming part, and even that doesn’t take all that much time. Besides, it’s absolutely necessary to sample at least one slice of each peach. Quality control, after all, is important.
We have included an easy way to switch to a gluten-free peach cobbler (still spicy) in the notes at the bottom of the recipe.

  • 7-8 fresh peaches Peeled and sliced
  • 1 cup sugar Truvia works in this recipe as well
  • 1 tsp nutmeg
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • ¼ cup Texas Pepper Jelly Peach Habanero
  • 1 box yellow cake mix Use a 15.25 oz box (any brand)
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 egg
  • 1 stick butter Salted or unsalted works


  • Preheat the oven to 350° F
  • In a large mixing bowl, stir the peaches with the sugar, nutmeg, cinnamon, and Peach Habanero Pepper Jelly.
  • Prepare the peaches first so that the spices and jelly have time to melt into the fruit and its juices.
  • In a medium casserole dish, melt the butter. The easiest way to do this is by placing the entire unwrapped stick of butter in the dish and putting it in the oven while it is preheating. Just keep an eye on it so that you don't burn the butter.
  • In a medium mixing bowl, mix together the yellow cake mix, egg, and milk; set aside
  • Pour half the cake mix over the butter; do not stir.
  • Dump the peach mixture over the cake mix and butter.
  • Pour the rest of the cake mix over the peaches. Don’t worry if all the peaches aren’t covered. Sprinkle a little extra sugar over the top.
  • Bake in a 350° F oven until the cake mixture is done and the peaches are soft, about 35 minutes. After 30 minutes, check every few minutes.
  • Serve hot or cold. Serve with or without ice cream.


Remove a big piece for yourself before you let other people help themselves or you won’t get any.
You can even make this in a crockpot if you’d rather not heat up your kitchen. Just follow these same directions, layer the cake mix, peach mix, and cake mix in your slow cooker’s baking insert the same way and turn your crockpot to low for 8 hours. It’ll be a little mushy but oh my, it’s so good.
