The Perfect Bread Knife: Messermeister’s Kullenschliff Slicer
Written by Jane Goodwin on June 8, 2010 – 7:10 am -
Texas Pepper Jelly is awesome on sandwiches and toast, but sandwiches and toast require bread. My family loves homemade bread, so I learned to make it.
I don’t use a bread machine, no, no, no. I make genuine homemade bread. I figure, if my fingernails aren’t spotlessly clean after I’m finished kneading that dough by hand, I’m not really finished kneading.
Once you remove your bread from the oven, however, it has to be sliced before you can really start slathering the pepper jelly on it. I’ve experimented with a lot of knives in my day – I’m kind of oldish so I’ve had a lot of days – and the knife I like best is the Messermeister 10-inch Kullenschliff slicer.

It’s a beautiful knife, all-round. Sharp as a razor. Easy to handle, too.
With some knives, cutting homemade bread is a big deal, and the slices are seldom smooth. The Messermeister Kullenschliff slicer, however, will give you a lovely clean slice every single time.
Remember, too, bread-bakers, that you really must let your bread cool completely before you try to slice it.
And now that your bread is sliced – thanks to your awesome Messermeister Kullenschliff slicer – you can start spreading that mouth-watering delicious Texas Pepper Jelly on it.
Mmmm, pepper jelly.
P.S. It’s June: the wedding month. Why not give the newlyweds some Messermeister cutlery? It lasts practically forever, and everyone needs good kitchen knives.

A Message from Texas Pepper Jelly’s CEO
Written by Jane Goodwin on April 13, 2010 – 11:51 pm -
If you haven’t already signed up to receive Texas Pepper Jelly’s newsletter, I strongly advise you to do so. You’ll get not only advice, information, and recipes; you’ll also get discount codes and freebies!
Here’s the newest newsletter, straight from the pen of Texas Pepper Jelly’s CEO, Craig Sharry:
Stop. Before you read this newsletter, take a minute and send this to 10 of your friends or family members. They will be glad that you did. You will be glad that you did. Everyone will be happy. (Seriously, do as he says!!!)
Hello Texas Pepper Jelly fans. I hope this newsletter finds everyone happy and doing well. Charlynn and I are doing fine and looking forward to a busy summer. Recently I had a few free minutes and was flipping the TV channels when I saw something that got my attention. It was one of those food channel shows where they talk all about new products and such. This particular show was talking about the “new” rage of sweet and spice mixed together. So I decided to give it a shot to see what all the fuss was about. The truth is other than maybe some new products the “new rage” is nothing new. Heck all they had to do was ask any of our customers and they could have found out sweet and heat has been around awhile. Here at Texas Pepper Jelly we have been working on the sweet heat concept for about 5 years. So whats all the fuss about? I can tell you this it was interesting to see some of the new products on the market such as spicy cookies and ice cream with hot pepper flavoring inside, but if anyone has been listening we have been talking about this kind of stuff for years. I can remember when we first started that one of our customers ordered a lot of Apple Jalapeno. I finally asked them where is all that Apple Jalapeno going? The answer was simple. Their 6 year old granddaughter was putting it on ice cream. Now if a 6 year old knows our product is good every body should be giving it a try.
Over the years we have heard of a lot of uses for our jellies. Let me give you just a few examples. It has been used on cookies, ice cream, hot dogs, hamburgers, pizza, biscuits, sandwiches, peanut butter, chocolate, chili, ribs, chicken, cake, pretzels, chips, cream cheese, egg rolls, chicken nuggets, iced drinks, lasagna, pot roast, soups, spam, pasta salad, sausage, pizza rolls, cheese sticks, and many, many more items. It sounds like to me you are only limited by your imagination. So if you are a regular customer you already know what others do not. If you have never tried our product what are you waiting for?
I know you’re probably curious about now but it really is the most amazing product you can purchase for adding zest and flavor to your food. And here at Texas Pepper Jelly we have made it even easier for you to find recipes to use our products. It’s as easy as going to our blog and looking at all the recipes that have been posted just over the last few months. We have some pretty amazing recipes that are both quick and easy to make. So take a minute and check it out. It’s as easy as clicking Texas Pepper Jelly Blog.
Every newsletter I try to give you a recipe that is tasty and easy to make. This month is no exception. Try the recipe below and impress all of your friends. Summer time is here and nothing tastes better in the summer than a refreshing cool side dish. This month’s recipe is our Texas Slaw. Try this one. It’s quick, easy and affordable. Ingredients:
- 1 head cabbage
- 1 large onion
- 1 red pepper
- 1 green pepper
- 2 large carrots
- 1 stalk celery
- 1/2 cup vinegar
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 2/3 cup Pineapple Habanero Pepper Jelly
- 1 tsp salt
What to do:
Shred the vegetables (tip: It’s easier if they are cold. Not frozen, just cold.)
In a large bowl, mix the shredded veggies with all the other ingredients. Toss lightly but thoroughly.
Refrigerate for about 2 hours before serving. Do not plan on having any leftovers!
I told you that you would love it. After all everyone loves a cool refreshing side dish in the hot summer time. One of the many great things about Texas Pepper Jelly is just how many different ways you can use it. Another thing that you will love is our newsletter. Tell your friends about it. What’s Cookin’ Wednesday: Spiced Nuts
Written by Jane Goodwin on January 20, 2010 – 3:53 am -
Once again: sometimes, the easiest recipes are the yummiest recipes!
These Texas Spiced Nuts are so good, you’ll never be able to make enough.
Ingredients:
1 12-ounce can of salted mixed nuts
3/4 cup sugar (I use Splenda)
1 egg white
1/2 cup Texas Pepper Jelly, any flavor
What to do:
Beat the egg white until foamy. Add the pepper jelly and beat to foam again. Fold in the nuts, making sure they’re thoroughly coated. Sprinkle the sugar over this mixture, stir to coat again. Spread nut mixure on a buttered cookie sheeet and bake at 350 degrees for about 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
The mixture will foam again in the oven.
After 20 minutes, remove from oven and cool. Store in a covered airtight container, but you probably won’t have any left to store after you set them out for your family to eat.
These spiced nuts are absolutely fantastic, and so quick and easy!
Texas spiced nuts also make an excellent gift, if you can slap your family’s hands away long enough to fill a pretty jar and tie a ribbon around it.
I’ve used Texas Pepper Jelly’s Pineapple Habanero, Apple Jalapeno, and Berry Blend pepper jellies, and we can’t wait to try other flavors as well.

Messermeister is a true innovator of premier German cutlery. The company has been responsible for numerous category firsts, such as a professional Chef’s camber for precise rocking action and the bolster-less heel of the forged Chef’s blade so that allows the complete cutting edge to be re-sharpened. These innovations greatly improve both function and safety.
Messermeister is the first and only cutlery brand to offer the exclusive elite edge, the sharpest edge of all forged cutlery. This high-performance edge of high-carbon molybdenum/vanadium steel makes it distinctively easier to slice, dice, and cut food as the result of a special three-step sharpening and hand polishing process. The elite edge also improves safety because it requires less effort and force to accomplish the task.
Messermeister was founded over a century ago in Solingen Germany by August Klinkerman, but our products were not available in the U.S. until Klinkerman’s great grandson, Bernd Dressler, established The Messermeister headquarters in California in 1984. Today, the company remains under the leadership of the Dressler Family, who continues to maintain the tradition of unmatched quality, product innovation and customer service.
Production of Messermeister cutlery is still focused in Solingen, Germany, which is the forged cutlery capital of the world and birthplace of Messermeister. Several years ago, Messermeister established a strong franchise with professional chefs and cooking schools, and in recent years, while maintaining a commitment to the institutional market, has begun building its consumer business through fine specialty retailers and catalogs.
Messermeister offers high-end cutlery in the Meridian elite, San Moritz elite, Park Plaza, Four Seasons, and Asian Precision lines. While marketing knife luggage, edge guards and other cutlery accessories.

Texas Pepper Jelly Appetizer: Simple and Awesome!
Written by Jane Goodwin on January 4, 2010 – 2:06 am -
We had guests for dinner on New Year’s Day, and here is the cracker/dip tray I set out.
Remember, often the most delicious things are also the simplest things. That dip in the middle of the tray is just cream cheese and Texas Pineapple Habanero Pepper Jelly.
It was a hit, too.
Here’s proof: My best friend Janice had never tasted pepper jelly before, and she ended up eating most of it and taking the rest home with her! I also sent a Texas Pepper Jelly sampler tin home with her, to “hold” her until her Texas Pepper Jelly order is delivered to her house.
Janice is awesome, and she pronounced the Texas Pineapple Habanero pepper jelly awesome as well.
She’s right. It is.
I can’t keep it in the house; it mysteriously disappears as quickly as it’s taken out of the cardboard box it was delivered in.
Already I need to order some more.

Texas Pepper Jelly at the Christmas Reunion
Written by Jane Goodwin on December 28, 2009 – 2:51 am -
This is the tray I took to our family reunion on Christmas Day. That’s Pineapple Habanero pepper jelly in the center, and the red stuff is Habanero Salsa. Check out which dips have been dipped into the most!
The plain old cheese dips couldn’t even begin to compete with Texas Pepper Jelly products! Which reminds me. . . I need to order some more. The delivery is so fast, I’ll probably get them in time for New Year’s Eve if I order today!
My family loves all of the Texas Pepper Jelly flavors, but I’ll have to say that Pineapple Habanero is everyone’s favorite here. And that Habanero Salsa is the only kind my son asks for, and he’s somewhat of a salsa expert!
By the way: do y’all see that shrimp to the right of the tray? People were dipping shrimp into the pepper jelly, too, and the verdict was DELICIOUS.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I need to order some more Texas Pepper Jelly. Darn family members ate it all.

December 17th is TOMORROW!
Written by Jane Goodwin on December 16, 2009 – 12:24 am -. . . and it’s the last day you can order anything and get it before Christmas. You’ll be seeing pretty much this same message all over the internet, for every online business.
Fortunately, it’s not the 17th yet, and there is still time to choose your Texas Pepper Jelly gift and have it sent to your friends and family members!
There are so many ways to use Texas Pepper Jelly, but may I remind y’all that one of the simplest of all recipes is also the tastiest and most useful to know when company comes or your family just wants a delicious snack.
Just pour a jar of any kind of Texas Pepper Jelly over a brick of cream cheese, and set out some crackers.
How easy can taste bud nirvana get?
